Bonsor Christmas party brings BACI together for the holidays

Excitement for highlight event has been building for weeks
Friday December 16, 2011 — Ryan Rogers

The highly anticipated Bonsor Christmas Party is tonight (Dec. 16) as everyone involved with the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI), from those in child care to the oldest, has a chance to see the “big picture” of what the association is all about.

Adult service worker Steve Sale says the excitement has been growing leading up to the event, and it sold out in a matter of days.

“It’s what BACI does well — have great celebrations,” says Steve. “It’s what we’re known for.

“A lot of guys get really excited about it . . .  they’re talking about it weeks in advance. It’s the social highlight of the season,” he adds.

Linda Santinon, one of the people BACI supports, says she loves the Christmas party.

“There’s a lot of people there, and a lot of people make me happy,” says Linda, adding she’s excited for the turkey dinner and dancing.

The Bonsor Christmas party has grown from fewer than 100 people in a small room to more than 400 people in three rooms.

The celebration brings together everyone from the BACI community to a family-like and inclusive celebration to wrap up the year.

Even the shyest people come out of their shells and get up on the Bonsor Recreation Centre stage to dance, or fill the dance floor after the tables have been cleared.

“It’s a time where once or twice a year we all get together,” says Steve. “It’s a good place to reconnect and catch up with everybody you haven’t seen in a long time.”
